Announcement: İlker Berke’s Passing – A Loss to Our Cinematography Community

 

As the Cinematographers’ Association of Turkey, we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved member, İlker Berke.

Born in 1968, İlker Berke developed an interest in photography, video, and cinema while studying Economics at Hacettepe University. Throughout his career, he worked as a camera assistant in more than 150 advertising films and also served as a director of photography for numerous cinema, television films, short films, series, documentaries, promotional and advertising films, music videos, and public service announcements. He also took on the role of producer for the documentary “Tepecik Hayal Okulu,” which tells the story of Ahmet Uluçay. Among his notable works is the feature film “Koridor (Corridor),” which he co-directed with Erkan Tahhuşoğlu in 2021, earning him the Best Cinematography Award at the 28th Adana Golden Boll Film Festival. Additionally, his contributions to the 2020 film “Kapan” and the 2002 film “Karpuz Kabuğundan Gemiler Yapmak” garnered attention, making İlker Berke a nominee for the Best Cinematography Award at the SİYAD Turkish Cinema Awards.
